What is a Precinct?

(This is an example of one precinct, in the city of Wixom.)

·       The first step in understanding the roles and responsibilities of a Precinct Delegate is defining a precinct.

·       The precinct is the smallest political unit in the country and all voters in a precinct vote at one location.

·       A precinct consists of about 3,000 residents.

·       This map is an example of what precincts look like in a city or township. The City of Wixom, shown in this map, has 4 precincts.

·       Each precinct has an allotted number of precinct delegates (for each party) based on past party voting strength.

·       Democrats have Precinct Delegates as well.

·       Because your precinct includes your neighborhood, it is easier for you to know the people and the issues that are important to the residents.

·       It is important to remember---The Precinct is where elections are won and lost. “All Politics is Local.”
